THE BROCKET CONSORT

Since 1992, The Brocket Consort have been delighting audiences with their annual evening of carols and readings at Christmas under their guest conductor, Christopher Muhley. Often held in country churches off the beaten track, the programme is performed by candlelight, sometimes to the accompaniment of a hand-pumped organ. The loyal audience is guided to the church along a lantern-lit path and served with freshly baked mince pies and mulled wine by members of the choir during the interval. The evening closes as the singers process out of the church into the darkness, the audience straining to catch the final chords of 'Silent Night' in the stillness of the frosty air.

The Brocket Consort is a group of eight, or ten, singers, who live in the St Albans and Harpenden area of Hertfordshire. Many of its members also sing with leading choirs including The Sixteen, The Taverner Consort, The Cambridge Singers, The Academy of St Martin in the Fields and St Albans Abbey Choir. The Consort enjoys performing a wide variety of music from Palaestra to Pärt and is equally at home with a capella repertoire and major choral works. Recent performances have included Handel: Dixit Dominus; Fauré: Requiem; Karl Jenkins: Adiemus. Songs of Sanctuary.
